Future Applications
More than just a vacuum flask
Vacuum Nanoelectronics is the combination of a vacuum and nanotechnology that has been projected to help overcome the deficiencies and limits of semiconductors, resulting in the field of vacuum nanoelectronics.
The nanoscale vacuum transistor is a fusion of old and new technologies. It is small and easily manufactured like the silicon transistor (new technology); and fast and immune to radiation like a vacuum tube (old technology).
The new vacuum tube’s faster operation allows it to be used in terahertz technology. The terahertz region, which is between the microwave and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, can identify certain molecules based on their structure. Therefore, there is potential for the technology to be used in industries that require security scanning, such as at airports for the safe scanning for illicit drugs.

This is a controversial method of preserving humans after scientific death. It is based on the premise that long term memory does not require sustained brain activity to survive. It is ideally done the minute a person goes into cardiac arrest to prevent icicles in the body from forming. Currently, no method of reversing this technique has yet been developed.
To date, less than 250 people have been cryopreserved. As cryonics involves extreme low temperatures, vacuum technology comes into play in the preservation of these low temperatures.
